Role of Technical and Vocational Education in Revamping Nigerian Economy

Abstract

In recent times, numerous attempts have been made by individuals,
philanthropists, NGOs and the government in contributing to the growth and
development of technical and vocational education in Nigeria. These averages
range from funding, donation of equipment/facilities, building of classroom/library
among others. In spite of these efforts, the quality of vocational and technical
education in Nigeria has not yet reached the standard that could bring about
economic transformation of the nation. This paper therefore attempted to examine
the challenges faced by Technical and Vocational Education in Nigeria, and
recommended among others that, government should promote the continuity of
technical and vocational education through training and retraining of Vocational
and Technical Education educators and regular funding of Vocational and
Technical Education projects in Nigeria.
