Abstract
This paper identified and discussed specific and general factors responsible for lecturers’ commitment in Nigerian institutions of higher education (IHE). A critical literature review, revealed that demographic factors (age, educational qualification, length of service and location) have direct influence on lecturers’ organizational commitment in Nigeria. It further revealed that length of service has greater influence on lecturer’s commitment. The paper concludes that lecturers’ organizational commitment in IHE is an essential component for sustainable growth and development. The paper recommends that since lecturers’ commitments in IHE are multidimensional; policy makers and implementers should use multi-faceted approaches towards resolving issues related to organizational commitment of lecturers in Nigeria in order to take care of all the components.
