Abstract

Strides in the adoption and use of information and communication technologies have changed the world immeasurably. While pockets of humankind were once isolated from each other, people now have multiple ways to see and hear what is occurring on the other side of the world in real time. Satellite technology, television, the internet and telephony keep the globe connected in a humming buzz of interactive voices and pictures. In short, ICT has come a long way from smoke signals passing through various stages to the present state. A lot can be benefited from information and communication technology by rural dwellers. This paper takes a look on the concept of information and communication technology with and its roles of in revitalizing the living standard and conditions in of rural area specifically in the area of health, agriculture, education, communication just to mention a few. The paper opined that due to ICT rural-urban migration have been reduced to the minimal, Investments and business has increased in the rural areas, enhanced easy and cheaper means of communication etc. Recommendations such as provision of internet facilities, government encouragement of businesses and cottage industries in rural area etc. were proffered in the paper
