Abstract

This paper determined the skills improvement needs of self-employed Technical College Motor Vehicle Mechanics Graduates in Transmission reconditioning work for uplifting the standard of Technical Education in Gombe State. A survey research design was used for the study. The population comprised of 60 self-employed technical college motor vehicle mechanics graduates and 12 automobile supervisors. The reliability coefficient established was 0.81 using Cronbach alpha. The results revealed that skills improvement needs for transmission reconditioning work are required in eight (8) item statements which among others were: Replacing of worn clutch driven plate, identification of bad release bearing, repair clutch judder. based on the findings it was recommended among others that eight (8) identified skills items need improvement by self-employed motor vehicle mechanics for effective repairs and maintenance of motor vehicle.
